Koalas at Aire River Campground

We are staying at a free camp at the Otways. There were Koalas in the trees! We bought a new field guide called Scats and Tracks, so we can identify what animals are at sites we stop at.

We went for a discovery walk, pretending to be nature detectives. Jacob and I are looking for signs of koalas. Found this, some fresh scats.

I broke it open to see inside. It says it would smell like eucalyptus and it does. First sign of koalas. Fresh means they are still there.

Here is one, but we found six, one sleeping in the tree right in front of our van.

Second sign of koalas, claw marks when climbing trees; again they are freshly made. You can see old scratch marks there too.

This is the view from my bedroom window. It's his tree. Our last clue was a piece of fur at the bottom of the tree.
